HISTORY
Oak Leaf Landscape Design - Chet Anthony
Growing up in the 1950's and 60's on a small farm in Tamworth, New Hampshire and coming from a large family of 11 children, I learned very quickly that having a large vegetable garden was essential. My parents had a small nursery, which gave me a quest for wanting to know more about the plants around me. I studied home and plant design when I was in high school, and entered the University of New Hampshire to study forestry. After leaving the University I went to work for the United States Forest Service in the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. There I continued to learn about the native plants and the problems plants can have.
After coming to California in 1972, I again worked for the Forest Service in several of the national forests in Southern and Northern California. I resigned from the Forest Service after 15 years of service. For the next 10 years I worked as an associate forestry consultant with a private consulting forester. As an associate forestry consultant I furthered my education in landscaping, with an emphasis on large areas of land. I handled the landscape design and landscape maintenance at various boy and girl scout ranches throughout Southern California. During this time I learned a great deal about insect control, as well as managing the planting of thousands of trees in the local mountains.
In 2000 through 2002 I worked at a commercial plant nursery, which further added to my extensive knowledge of plants. At the commercial plant nursery, I also learned fertilization techniques, and how to properly transplant large trees.
When I started my own landscape design business in 2003, I not only wanted to design landscape, but to teach homeowners how to maintain their plants and trees after they were planted. I create my landscape designs with the idea that every property is different with different needs. I consider the slope of the property, the type of soil, the drainage of the property, as well as the weather conditions for the area. By taking all of these factors into consideration, it assures a successful landscape project.
I will refer you to reputable and reliable contractors who will work with me to implement your landscape design. The contractor may be needed to grade the property, plant landscape materials, install stone work and pools and water features -- all under my supervision.
I work with my clients to make their landscape visions become reality to create the landscape of their dreams, whether it be a country garden, Tuscany or Old English garden, desert/dryscape garden, rock garden, or a low maintenance garden.
